License Types
OrCAD provides multiple options to allow you to best match your usage needs with the license you purchase.
There are three options available through the EMA Store:
- Time-based Floating License (TBL)
- What is it: 1 year access license which is tied to a license server (can be a dedicated server or user machine) that can be shared across users in the same location (1 user per license owned at a time).
- Who is it ideal for: Teams with the potential for multiple users who will not need to use the license concurrently and can share access as needed (can add additional licenses to enable more concurrent users).
- Time-based Single User License (SUL)
- What is it: 1 year access license which is tied to a specific named user and machine. Only this user is authorized to access the license. License is administered through a Cadence entitlement management system (EMS).
- Who is it for: Single users who have no need to share access to the license / do not plan on using the license on multiple machines and do not want to / prefer not to handle license hosting and management internally.
- Perpetual Floating License
- What is it: A perpetual floating license grants the license holder 99-year access to the software (referred to as perpetual access). Like time-based floating this license is tied to a license server (can be a dedicated server or user machine) that can be shared across users in the same location (1 user per license owned at a time).
- Who is it for: Users who plan to use the license for multiple projects / years. Also good for those that need to retain ownership / access to the license even after they may finish their projects to enable updates and future edits.
Support & Updates/Upgrades:
All license types include access to unlimited phone, email, and web technical support as well as access to any upgrades and updates released for the products (perpetual license requires you to maintain an annual maintenance contract to continue to receive updates and upgrades after the first year).
Additional Options
The following options are not currently available through the EMA store. If you are interested in these, you can contact us directly at 877-362-3321
- Partial / Multi-year Licenses [not available through EMA store]
- What is it: License terms longer or shorter than a year are available as well
- Who is it ideal for: Those looking for short term project-based access or looking to lock in pricing for longer than one year.
- Dongle [not available through EMA store]
- What is it: License tied to a physical hardware key. Key can be moved between machines to allow for multiple users and machines to access it. Does not require a network connection (just the dongle) to authorize access.
- Who is it ideal for: Users who need license portability but do not always have access to a license server or network.
- Regional WAN [not available through EMA Store]
- What is it: Floating license access outside a single region (expand to content / global access to the license)
- Who is it ideal for: Design teams looking to share and manage their license centrally across multiple locations in multiple countries / localities.
