Executive Insights: The Rise of the Mechatronic Digital Twin

As product development becomes more complex and intertwined, unique business challenges arise within the high-tech industry. The partnership between EMA Design Automation and Dassault Systemes' breaks down traditional communication barriers and provides organizations a single solution to address their individual needs.

Recently, Manny Marcano, President and CEO of EMA Design Automation, spoke with Olivier de Percin, Dassault Systemes' Vice President of the high tech sector, to discuss the partnership as well as other topics including mechatronics, the idea of a digital twin, and the current and future state of the EDA market. See below to listen to the full interview.

Why EMA and Dassault Systemes?

Successful design is not done in a vacuum. There are multiple teams involved in the successful launch of a product. Both EMA and Dassault Systemes’ place a large emphasis on the customer experience.  “We speak the same language regarding technology,” said de Percin.

As products become more intertwined, understanding the electrical design process is essential. With over 30 years of expertise, EMA has insight into the EDA market, can anticipate industry needs, and address unique business challenges that arise.  This knowledge allows EMA to break down traditional communication barriers and create a single source of truth within organizations, eliminating inefficiencies and the need for multiple design iterations.

"We believe that by partnering with EMA and leveraging both companies’ abilities, we can bring total business transformation to both new and existing customers,” said de Percin. Dassault Systemes has a clear vision regarding the digital twin, which is what Manny hopes to bring to the EDA market. “The biggest issue in the market today is the technology developed is state-of-the-art electronics, but the process and methodologies to do so are often archaic,” said Marcano. Dassault Systemes' 3DExperience Platform can provide a logical, physical, and system level view of the digital twin. “We bring the product, environment, and the user experience, all together and we’re able to simulate them simultaneously and that’s where it becomes really powerful,” said de Percin.

The digital twin strategy is something both companies are passionate about. “To be able to take this strategy to the marketplace and eliminate prototypes, eliminate board spins, and help a customer with time to market, is a tremendous value proposition. If we can eliminate failures and define parts and processes early, the probability of success is much higher,” says Marcano.

Realizing the Digital Twin with the 3DExperience Platform

As part of this partnership, EMA Design Automation is now able to offer the Dassault Systemes’ 3DExperience Platform to customers. The 3DExperience Platform serves as a single source of truth, supporting concept-to-production, while driving successful digital transformation throughout each team within an organization. With a single, easy-to-use interface, it powers industry solution experiences, based on 3D design, analysis, simulation and intelligence software in a collaborative interactive environment. The 3DExperience platform is available on premise and on the cloud.

Technology Webinar

To kick off the partnership, EMA Design Automation and Dassault Systemes teamed up for a live webinar, Virtual Prototyping using Electromagnetic Simulation for Connected Devices, on Wednesday, May 27th.
